The Sur Desalination Plant takes great care to reduce the environmental consequences of the desalination process. Two noteworthy initiatives are energy recuperation and reuse with Energy Recovery Devices (ERD), which not only decreases the plant's effect on the environment, but also lowers operating costs. Additionally, a unique beachwell-based water intake system allows for a gentler pre-treatment process due to natural sand filtration, resulting in higher water quality.
